He left his regiment April 8, 1788, and in 1791 we find him in London, playing oboe in the great orchestra which Salomon gathered to give Haydn's symphonies, under the personal direction of the composer. We next enĀ­counter our strolling musician in Prince Edward Island, where he must have found very little chance to exercise his talents, for he soon set sail for Charleston, S. C, where he married and remained a few years. His wife was also a good musician and a talented singer. In 1798 the wanderings ended, and our musician settled in Boston, where there were then about half a dozen professional musicians. He very soon drew these, and a few amateurs, around him.
